The two most common types of transformers are Pad-Mounted Substation and Pad Mounted Transformer. Both are used for the same purpose but differ in design, installation, and application.
Firstly, Pad-Mounted Substation, also known as prefabricated transformer or packaged transformer, is designed to be installed in a compact space. These transformers are preassembled at the factory so they are ready to use when shipped to the site. They are available in different sizes and capacities.
On the other hand, Pad Mounted Transformer is designed to be used in countries with 120V power systems. These transformers are large and heavy. They are usually installed outdoors.
Another major difference is the installation process. Pad Mounted Transformer requires a lot of preparation for installation, including installing a concrete base, trenching, and installing conduit. Pad-Mounted Substation, on the other hand, is much easier to install. They only require a flat surface and connection to the building's electrical system.
The applications of these two transformers are also different. Pad-Mounted Substation is usually used for small projects while Pad Mounted Transformer is usually used for large projects.
In summary, Pad-Mounted Substation and Pad Mounted Transformer each have their own advantages and disadvantages. Pad Mounted Transformer is suitable for large projects with high power and high voltage. Pad-Mounted Substation is suitable for small projects or scenarios with limited available space.
